Group Exercise

Why not try group exercise if you’re looking for a way to boost your motivation? Sometimes the support and encouragement of group exercise can provide the perfect antidote to the isolation of a solo workout. Although going for a solitary run at the end of a stressful day can be a great way to wind down, spending all your training time alone can have disadvantages. The camaraderie of a group exercise class can help you find that last bit of energy to finish the course, but when you’re alone, there’s no one to know if you decide to abandon your cycle ride a mile or two early.

With a varied range of classes on offer, there’s plenty to keep your interest and challenge you in new ways. How about sampling some of these?

  • Abdominal workouts
  • Aerobics (low and high impact)
  • Body pump
  • Body sculpt
  • Boxercise
  • Circuit training
  • Mat Pilates
  • Skipping
  • Spinning classes
  • Step
  • Tai Chi
  • Yoga
What’s more, many of the activities you may be pursuing on your own can also be approached collectively, to give you that added bit of community support. There are clubs for everything from running and cycling, to swimming, rowing, triathlon, and even rollerblading.

Joining clubs and classes enables you to meet like-minded people who share your interests. It also gives you access to a pool of experts when you need some help and advice - not only instructors, but also more experienced peers. There are all the added bonuses of sociability too. And there’s nothing like a spot of peer pressure to keep you working at your fitness regime – it’s a lot harder to miss a workout session when there is a whole roomful of people to notice!
